5 Resources for Black Entrepreneurs and Professionals

For the past couple of weeks, there has been plenty of discussion on how to ensure Black professionals are being supported within their place of work. Today we’re building on that discussion to share a list of resources for Black professionals and entrepreneurs across Canada. Read on to learn about different organizations that support the advancement of Black people in work and business. 

Canadian Black Chamber of Commerce

The Canadian Black Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit organization created by the National African Canadian Association (NACA) to help promote and support Black businesses. Members of the Canadian Black Chamber of Commerce gain access to a variety of resources including mentorship and training, grant opportunities, and a large network of businesses to help them succeed. 


Afrobiz.ca is the largest directory of Black-owned businesses in Canada. Created with the intention of providing a centralized platform where people could find Black-owned businesses and Black entrepreneurs, the directory currently lists over 1500 Black-owned businesses, Black Entrepreneurs, and Black organizations in Canada. Adding your business to the directory is absolutely free and will provide you with increased exposure and visibility. 

Black Business Initiative

Headquartered in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Black Business Initiative is “committed to growing a Black presence in a diverse range of sectors including high-tech, manufacturing, tourism, and the cultural sector.” They provide financial assistance, training, and business tools such as business plan templates and a variety of calculators and converters for business owners to use. 

Black Professionals in Tech 

Black Professionals in Tech (BPTN) is an organization backed by TD Bank that is focused on bridging the talent gap in the tech industry by providing Black tech professionals with executive sponsorship, skill development, and peer networking to help them develop the skills and support they need to expand their careers. 

Black Business and Professional Association

The vision of the Black Business and Professional Association is clear; “to be the organization of choice serving the Black community’s business, professional and economic development needs.” Members can enjoy access to exclusive networking events, opportunities to shine a spotlight on their business, business leads, scholarships, and more.
